Prefixes and Suffixes

Prefix and Suffix is a series of letters, written at the beginning or end of a word to provide information. They are not a word, and they can not stand alone in a sentence. First we must understand what is the root word before we menambakan prefix or suffix. The root word is a word that can be converted into a new word by adding a prefix (prefix) and a suffix (suffix).

Prefix
 

Prefixes is the prefix that is placed on a word to create a new set of words with different meanings to provide information. Each prefix has a different meaning, when the prefix added to a root words, prefixes change the meaning of the word into a new word has been added.

Suffix
 

Suffix is a letter or group of letters that are placed at the end of a word or root (the simplest form (base form) of a word - could not be parsed again) to produce a new word. Suffix is one type affix (suffix). In others there is also a prefix and infix.

Example Root:

hat (noun), talk (verb), nice (adjective), well (adverb)

There are two types of suffixes, namely:
 

1. Derivational Suffix    Derivational suffix if added at the end of a word will determine the part of speech (word classes) it. The new word is produced through a process called derivation (the process of formation of the word derivative) in which meaning will be different from the root word or earlier.

2. inflectional Suffix
    Inflectional suffix if added at the end of a word will be grammatical variations without changing the class of a word and its meaning drastically (tend to be predictable).
